General Information
Ista Weyr is considered the smallest of Pern's Weyrs, with only 250 dragonpairs to its name. Situated in the south of Big Island, it flies Threadfall during the Pass over Ista Hold and much of Keroon. Ista Weyr is an unusual Weyr in that it doesn't have enough weyrs within the inner wall of the volcano, making up for this by housing riders on the outer wall in "forest weyrs" which look out over the surrounding greenery.
A waterfall drops off the north wall, flowing from the plateau, and the waterfall pool is a popular place to swim. The corral stands between the bowl and the plateau, which opens onto the bay in the north. Ista's beach is well-known for its black sand beaches and sparkling seas. The dock is always full of ships with all manner of colourful sails, and water sports have found popularity during Threadfree times.
Ista has experienced several earthshakes, none very recent. When one occurs, an offshore mountain surfaces, though as yet no link between the two
Ista's dragons helped rebuild the High Reaches line of queens with the transfer of Chana and gold Melirth to High Reaches Weyr before the Pass started. Ista is also responsible for the entire Southern Continent's line of queens with the transfer of Marlena and Maylith to Southern Weyr.
Ista's current Weyrleaders are Kyrola, Zaith's rider, and R'layn, Talurith's rider.
