Description
Black hair with pearly white highlights has been given a bowl cut to frame a rounded, nearly oval, face. Miraen's eyes appear black at first glance, but a close look reveals a very deep brown. They are almond-shaped and large, offsetting a relatively small nose. Her lips are full and usually rest in the faintest shadow of a smile. She is tallish at 5'7", and has a feminine appearance, her curves slightly large for her otherwise slender build. She appears to be in her late teens, perhaps early twenties, but not much older.
Miraen is wearing a tank-sleeved orange tunic of a thin, but not see-through, crepe-like material, belted with a sash. Her leggings, of the same light material, are a red-orange which complement rather than clash with the top. The legs billow out and then cinch at her ankles, just above her tanned but undyed wherhide sandals. She also wears a matching shell necklace and bracelet. On her shoulder is a knot of black and orange with a strand of gold which indicates a weyrwoman at Ista Weyr.
Personality
Miraen is a generally friendly person, always happy to meet new people or greet those she knows. She will answer to her full name as well as to "Mir", "Raen", or an obvious enough "hey you". As befits one of her rank, she is polite to her betters and equals. Although not many are higher in rank she is also pleasant to those whom she outranks, as much because she'd much rather be treated that way. She was formerly a competent basket weaver for the Weyr, but her life took a 180 with her impression to Caeryth from a recent clutch.
She has two hobbies which have been shelved for now: making jewelry from shells and making tote bags. The former she gathered from the beach and strung on thread commonly available to all residents. The latter were made from reeds deemed unfit for the Weyr's tough standards, but which were more than adequate for personal use. She gave out the necklaces and bracelets she made, usually in sets, to friends. She made the totes on a commission basis, and always started haggling at 1/4 mark, though she could be bargained down. Her other two favorite activities are running and swimming, which is good given her fondness for sweets.
Mir is not quick to anger, and when she does it's more likely to be a slow burn than an explosive moment. Revenge, when necessary, is generally creative and tailored to the offense. More often than revenge, though, she usually just gives the cold shoulder to whomever angered her, until they've reconciled appropriately. As with noted when dealing with those she outranks, Miraen treats people as she would want to be treated, and if she gives offense it is unintended and she will try to make amends.
Childhood
Miraen was born in the last turn of the true Pass, making her just over twenty-three turns of age at present. Her mother, Loris, is the rider of green Omirath, and her father, K'del, was the rider of blue Pevoth. Her conception was the result of a mating flight and her parents never Weyrmated. She was raised in the Weyr's nurseries until she hit adolescence.
Adolescence
When Miraen was twelve she was assigned to Sarana, one of the Weyr's foster-mothers. The match was a good one, since Miraen was a good, if enthusiastic, child. Sarana was able to channel Mir's energy into running and swimming rather than destructive tendencies. It was she who matched Miraen to basket-making as a possible future, since she could tell Miraen would need something to hold her attention even as she created. Sarana was also nurturing and had a sense of humor, both things which appealed to the young fosterling, who craved affection and liked to laugh.
Of course it wasn't all rainbows and sunbeams. Miraen had her fights, both with other children and with her foster mother, and had her first crush which ended up with her being rejected. It wasn't until her seventeenth turn, though, that she had her first taste of true sorrow. In one of the last Falls of the mini-Pass, over Sadrid Hold, her father and his blue Pevoth went /between/ after being scored and never emerged. True, she was closer to her foster mother than to either parent, but she had liked her father in the time she spent with him.
In the intervening turns Miraen had recovered from the grief, in part due to her finally being deemed proficient enough in her basket weaving to work on her own. She kept in contact with both her foster mother and her biological one, and wasn't above hitching rides to gathers from the latter. The marks she'd made from basket-weaving have been turned over to the Headwoman for safekeeing. She was not scarred for life after her first crush, by any means, but she's not developed anything more than fond friendship with the boys of her age.
Impression
After a calm and considered appraisal of each of the female candidates, each given equal time in her estimation even if she might not have appeared to do so, the Daydreaming Den Mother Gold Hatchling makes her decision and makes her way across the sands to the basketweaver, Miraen, her whirling red eyes meeting those of her new lifemate.

Theme Song
"The Rainbow Connection", written by Kenny Ascher and Paul Williams, made famous by Kermit the Frog in _The Muppet Movie_.
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic...
... Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
... Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be...
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.
